Inside the absolute slog of a day the MAFS UK cast’s wedding guests have to endure

As much as MAFS UK loves to make you feel like the wedding days are real, it is of course just a television show. But what you might not know is that the experience for the guests of the brides and grooms on MAFS UK as they attend their loved ones faux wedding is actually way less fun and frolics than you’d anticipate. Former MAFS UK bride Erica has gone into detail about what it’s like for the guests who come to the weddings and it honestly just sounds like a massive slog. I’d rather not bother, personally – so let’s just pray none of my nearest and dearest sign up.

In a TikTok discussing the MAFS UK process now the new series is back, 2023 cast member Erica Roberts revealed some goss the show doesn’t tell you. “With the weddings you’re only allowed to have 12 guests,” Erica explained. “Those 12 guests have to make their own way there. They have to pay their own way there. Production, Channel 4, the show will not pay for them to come.”

Erica, who is based in Edinburgh, spoke more about how that affected her wedding guests on MAFS UK. “I’m up in Scotland. All my family are also up in Scotland. The weddings were way down south in London – I don’t know where exactly the wedding was. I know they got me a train to London and then I was in a cab for maybe an hour or two to wherever this hotel venue was.

“Obviously my guests had to get there as well, so they all had to fork out and pay to come to a fake wedding. You’ve got to remember that’s trains, hotels, Ubers, food – everything. It’s not just one day of filming. They have to come down the night before. Then they have to film the wedding the whole day. I don’t think they knew what to expect – obviously they’ve never done TV so they were like, woah.

“There’s a lot of waiting around. It’s not smooth. TV is not smooth at all. Long ass day for them. And then obviously, the day after the wedding they have to stay as well. So that’s like three whole days they’re having to give up. I also got married on Mother’s Day as well – so they were giving up their Mother’s Day to be at the wedding. And they had to pay for it. Which I thought was a bit sh*te.”

Brutal!
