International newspapers covered developments in the next phase after the agreement to stop the war in Gaza, highlighting an American-Israeli plan to redivide the Gaza Strip into two regions, and Washington’s efforts to rebuild and achieve regional stability.
The Wall Street Journal monitored the discussions held by the United States with Israeli officials regarding a plan proposing to divide the Gaza Strip into two separate areas.

According to the American newspaper, one of the two areas is under the control of the Israeli occupation and the other is administered by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), with reconstruction operations being carried out only in the part subject to Israel.
But Arab countries – according to the newspaper – expressed their rejection of the proposed partition plan, expressing their concern that this division would lead to the consolidation of the permanent Israeli presence in part of the Gaza Strip, and they also ruled out agreeing to send Arab forces to Gaza under these circumstances.
It also quoted a senior US administration official as saying, “The plan to divide the sector is just an initial idea, and updates will be provided in the coming days.”
Stabilization and reconstruction
For its part, “Newsweek” magazine – in an article – addressed the issue of Gaza’s reconstruction, noting that providing shelter for the displaced requires a new and radical approach to post-war reconstruction.
According to the article, it is possible to provide immediate shelter for the displaced in preparation for the construction of permanent, carefully planned housing complexes, pointing out that organized reconstruction is not only limited to improving the lives of Gaza residents, but also contributes to consolidating regional stability in the long term.
In a related context, the New York Times quoted American officials as saying that there is concern within the administration of US President Donald Trump about the possibility of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu – wanted by the International Criminal Court – withdrawing from the Gaza Agreement.
According to officials, the current White House strategy seeks to prevent Netanyahu from resuming the fight against Hamas, led by Vice President J.D. Vance, along with US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
They pointed out that there are existing questions regarding the size of the role that the United States and its allies envision for the Palestinian Authority in the next stage.
Calls for Netanyahu to be held accountable
Regarding internal Israeli affairs, the Haaretz newspaper editorial called on the Jerusalem judges to expedite the decision on the trial of Netanyahu, who is accused of corruption cases, and stressed the public’s right to know whether the Prime Minister is guilty or innocent, and the nature of the crimes against him.
The newspaper stressed that the judicial duty requires judges to set a clear timetable for the trial and reach a quick and fair ruling that ensures the principle of accountability is achieved without delay.
Netanyahu faces charges of corruption, bribery and breach of trust in 3 corruption files.
In addition to his trial locally, on November 21, 2024, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu on charges of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
