Interpol arrested Simón Levy in Portugal, he was released and detained

Mexico City, October 29 (However).- The Security Cabinet of the Government of Mexico clarified this Wednesday afternoon that Simon Levy Dabbaha former federal and capital official, was arrested by the International Criminal Police Organization, better known as Interpolin Portugalwhere a Court ordered his freedom by imposing precautionary measuresincluding permanence and identity control, while their nationality status is verified and their surrender to the Mexican authorities is resolved.

“Within the framework of international cooperation mechanisms, yesterday the Government of Mexico was notified by the Portuguese authorities about the arrest of Simón ‘N’, derived from a Red Notice from Interpol, due to the existence of two arrest warrants in force against him, related to criminal proceedings for crimes against the environment and liability for work, as well as for threats and damage to other people’s property,” the institution said in a statement.

At the same time, he highlighted that the Government of Mexico maintains communication with the Portuguese authorities to follow up on the case, in accordance with international legal cooperation and extradition mechanisms.

Simón Levy Dabbah, former federal and capital official, said in a telephone interview with However that he was never arrested, that he is in Washington, where – he said – he suffered an attack, and that he is free. However, he did not confirm that he is actually in the United States (EU).

“The Attorney General’s Office (FGR) notified this institution that, according to information from the National Central Office of Interpol Mexico and its counterpart in Portugal, Simón “N” was detained last Tuesday, October 28 for extradition purposes. Likewise, it was reported that this Wednesday, October 29, he appeared before the competent judicial authority, where he was informed of his rights and opted to face the formal extradition process, in accordance with the legislation of that country, subject to precautionary measures of permanence. and identity control (Termo de Identidade e Residência), while their nationality status is verified and their delivery to the Mexican authorities is resolved,” he explained.

During her morning press conference, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo stated that the case is related to a complaint filed some time ago by an individual in Mexico City (CdMx). Regarding the place of arrest he only commented: “It seems so. In Portugal.”

Levy revealed that he resides in Washington and that the United States Department of State (US) rejected the extradition request presented by Mexican authorities. He described the video that supports one of the complaints against him as “edited.”

Two open cases

The FGJ-CdMx detailed today that the proceedings against Simón Levy began in 2021. The first was for crimes against the environment and responsibility of construction directors, for the construction of a property that violated regulations.

Who is Simon Levy?

Simón Levy Dabbah is a businessman and former official who has held positions in both the capital and federal governments. He was general director of the Investment Promotion and Development Agency of Mexico City (ProCdMx) during the Administration of Miguel Ángel Mancera, where he promoted urban and investment projects.
