The meteorological warning from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) in force this Saturday due to the forecast of heavy rain was increased to orange in the districts of Aveiro, Coimbra, Guarda, Leiria and Viseu.
These five districts are now under orange warning, the intermediate one on a scale of three, until 3pm today, during which “heavy and persistent precipitation” is forecast.
The districts of Castelo Branco, Lisbon, Portalegre and Santarém remain under yellow warning, the least serious, until 3pm, due to heavy rain, while in Porto this alert ends earlier, at 12pm.
The weather in mainland Portugal, especially the northern and central regions, is being affected by the effects of the Benjamin Depression.
For today, the IPMA predicts very cloudy or overcast skies, with precipitation that is sometimes heavy and persistent in the North and Center regions, with light rainfall in Baixo Alentejo and the Algarve.
It also points to a small drop in maximum temperatures in the North, Center and Algarve.
