It’s all kicked off! How a shady red carpet comment ignited messy Nicole Scherzinger drama

Nicole Scherzinger won her first ever Tony at the 2025 Awards ceremony on Sunday night, but one shady comment stole all the thunder after it dragged up Nicole’s most recent big controversy. Nicole Scherzinger has received unanimous praise for the work she’s done as Norma Desmond in the major Sunset Boulevard revival. She won an Olivier award for her performance when she was on the West End with Boulevard, but now has levelled up further by winning her first Tony for the Broadway transfer. However, Nicole Scherzinger has found herself wrapped up in drama after her fellow winner Cole Escola made a shady comment after finding out Nicole had won in the major category.

Here’s the drama explained in full – because there’s a lot of context you may have missed and never have three viral little words felt so goddamn brutal!

‘Four more years’

Whilst getting interviewed, Cole Escola – the non binary actor who won for Best Actor in a Play for their work in Oh Mary – reacted in real time to the announcement of Nicole Scherzinger winning her first Tony. There’s a lot of stunned silence at first before Escola says “okay, wow.” Another person says “the speculating is over” and then Escola replies “The speculating is over. Wow. Four years! Four more years.”

This is seemingly a shady nod to Donald Trump and the MAGA regime’s mantra of four more years before he was re-elected President last year, beating Kamala Harris. Nicole Scherzinger found herself in big drama and controversy when she just months ago commented on a post from disgraced comedian Russell Brand. Russell posted a picture in a Trump inspired cap that read Make Jesus First Again. Nicole had commented “Where do I get this hat!?”

There were also alleged screenshots of Nicole liking posts from Robert F Kennedy Jr as he voiced support for Donald Trump.

After the backlash, Nicole Scherzinger put a statement out. She said at the time: “I deeply apologise for the hurt caused by my recent engagement with some social media posts. When I commented on these posts, I made the mistake of not realising that they could be easily interpreted as being politically related and I apologise to anyone who understandably reached that conclusion.

“Many presumptions are being drawn, which do not reflect who I am, what I stand for, or who I voted for. Many of the marginalized communities feeling hurt and concerned by the results of the presidential election are people I care about most. I stand with them, as I always have, throughout my life and career. If you know me, you know that.”

Nicole Scherzinger as of right now is yet to respond to the shady comment Cole Escola joked about on the red carpet, but the drama is JUICY nonetheless.
