Okay, so after years of anticipation about who Belly would choose in The Summer I Turned Pretty, we finally have the answer, and it’s Conrad! As a Bonrad girlie, I was really scared we wouldn’t get the happy ending we all wanted, but Jenny Han did justice to Conrad, giving him the ending he so well deserved. But the story doesn’t end there; there’s a new The Summer I Turned Pretty movie in the making.
So, yesterday was the show’s finale, and while everyone had a bittersweet feeling about it being the end, Han teased the possibility of continuing the story in a handwritten letter that was included in the end credits. In the letter, she thanked viewers for “the love you’ve shown The Summer I Turned Pretty all these years.” Before signing off, she teased, “Maybe we’ll meet again one summer in Cousins.”
And now, she has confirmed that there’s going to be a movie that will conclude the Cousins beach story.
So, what has she said about the new movie?
Amazon Prime Video has officially green lit a feature film titled The Summer I Turned Pretty: The Movie. The movie will be written by the mastermind herself, Jenny Han, who made the announcement yesterday. According to Variety, she said, “There is another big milestone left in Belly’s journey. And I thought only a movie could give it its proper due. I’m so grateful to Prime Video for continuing to support my vision for this story and for making it possible to share this final chapter with the fans.”
Jenny Han has previously talked about the possibility of extending the Summer I Turned Pretty universe “if the story is there.” She told Entertainment Weekly, “Never say never, I never do. If the story is there, then I’m there.” She added, “As a storyteller, you just get hit with inspiration all the time. If I had a really great idea that I was excited about, that I wanted to keep telling the story. And if the stars were excited to do it, then I would be so pumped. It really depends on if I feel like there is more story to tell.”
So, what will the movie be about?

Jenny Han hasn’t revealed the exact details of the movie yet. But based on the last book, there’s still a key moment we haven’t seen. Of course, Jenny Han made major changes from the book in the show. But she kept most of the key moments intact. So, it’s not far-fetched to expect to see the huge ending scene from the book: Belly and Conrad’s wedding. In the show’s finale, we saw Belly and Conrad definitely back together, but they weren’t engaged or married.
So, hopefully, we’ll see that in the movie, along with more of Steven and Taylor.
