AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – As construction continues through downtown Augusta, the James Brown Statue is being temporarily relocated for safekeeping, according to the City of Augusta.
In statement released on Tuesday, the statue, currently located in front of the Augusta Common, will be moved on Thursday, July 16 as construction work is will soon impact the section of Broad Street between 8th and 9th Streets.
“With authorization from the James Brown Family, Augusta-Richmond County will partner with
the Augusta Museum of History to facilitate the relocation,” the statement reads in part. “While off display, the statue will be securely stored in a climate-controlled environment at the Augusta Museum of History for safekeeping during the construction period.”
Once construction is completed, the James Brown Statue will return to Broad Street as part of the “newly developed James Brown Linear Park.” The park is expected to showcase a visual display of musical works, interactive activities and a timeline of achievements.
