James Gunn Almost Killed Off a Fan-Favorite Character in ‘Peacemaker’ Season 1 – Bundlezy

James Gunn Almost Killed Off a Fan-Favorite Character in ‘Peacemaker’ Season 1

When Peacemaker wrapped its first season, most of the misfit team managed to limp away from the chaos alive. But according to creator James Gunn, one core character was originally marked for a much darker fate.

On the Peacemaker Podcast, Gunn revealed that early outlines had Emilia Harcourt (the rough and tough ARGUS agent) taken over by Goff, the alien Butterfly parasite who previously possessed Senator Royland Goff. That switch would’ve erased Harcourt’s consciousness completely, leaving only Goff in control. Gunn admitted he even considered having Peacemaker stay by her side, torn between his feelings for Harcourt and the reality that she was gone. Ultimately, the idea was scrapped before scripts were finalized, sparing Harcourt and setting up her return.

Who Is Emilia Harcourt?

Introduced in The Suicide Squad before stepping into a bigger role on Peacemaker, Harcourt became the grounded center of the show’s chaos. She’s one of the few “normal” humans in a lineup of costumed killers and alien invaders. Fans quickly latched onto her, and her near-death experience in the season 1 finale already gave her plenty of scars to carry into season 2.

Where Will We See Harcourt in Season 2?

In a recent interview with Collider, Jennifer Holland teased that Harcourt enters season 2 harder and more vulnerable at the same time—she almost died, lost her job, and is now trying to find her footing again. She may not have superpowers, but Harcourt’s still one of the team’s most fearless fighters. Season 2 will push her further than ever, with new cast members like Frank Grillo and Tim Meadows joining the returning squad.

Harcourt is bruised, but not broken—and probably not done calling Peacemaker on his BS.
