James Gunn says writing the Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow has been a joy compared to his first outing with the Man of Steel.
JAMES GUNN’S SUPERMAN
The filmmaker revealed that the new script came together easily and with much less pressure. “Much,, easier,” Gunn told a fan on Threads. “So fun.”
The film serves as a direct follow-up to this year’s Superman, which introduced David Corenswet as Clark Kent and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.
THE DC UNIVERSE
That film became a global hit, collecting R11.4 billion at the worldwide box office, with R5.6 billion coming from the North American market alone.
It marked a fresh start for the DC Universe under Gunn and co-head Peter Safran, according to Deadline.
THE SUPERMAN SEQUEL
This sequel continues that momentum. Gunn promises a story where Superman and Lex Luthor must join forces against a bigger threat.
“It is as much a Lex movie as it is a Superman movie,” Gunn said during a radio interview. “Lex and Superman have to work together, to a certain degree, against something much more dangerous.”
Fans already speculate that Brainiac will be the villain. Others suggest figures like Silver Banshee or Neron. Gunn remains tight-lipped, according to Games Radar.
MORE DC FILMS COMING
The first James Gunn Superman film played strongly at local cinemas and drew excitement from comic book fans.
Major DC releases have performed reliably well in South Africa, and Warner Bros expects similar interest here. The local release will match the global date of 9 July 2027.
Before then, audiences can look forward to Supergirl in 2026. DC also has Clayface on its slate.
IT’S A BIRD, IT’S A PLANE
For Gunn, the immediate task is delivering another blockbuster. But his tone is lighter this time around. “I knew exactly where we were going,” he explained.
That confidence should reassure fans that Superman’s next chapter will fly even higher.
