James Harden’s Houston Restaurant Closes Over Millions in Unpaid Debt

NBA star James Harden is going through a lockout. Not in his beloved sport, but as an entrepreneur.

It’s being reported in Houston that the former Houston Rockets star’s restaurant, Thirteen, has been shut down due to unpaid debt totaling more than $2 million. Chron on Wednesday reported that a lockout notice was posted on the restaurant’s door on Monday. Ironically, patrons can still make reservations on OpenTable, though no word if the restaurant will actually be able to honor them.

According to the lockout notice, Thirteen is in a deep hole, to the tune of some $2.2 million in “delinquent rents and other amounts due to the lease.”

The unpaid debt, according to the lockout notice, led to the door locks being changed. Harden nor any restaurant management can access the restaurant until the debt is paid. When the debt is paid, the lockout notice states, management will be provided with a new key.

Thirteen, located at 1911 Bagby Street in Houston, opened in 2021. That same year, Harden skipped training camp with the Rockets before he requested a trade. Thirteen endured since Harden’s departure. The restaurant reportedly underwent a rebrand last year. Thirteen is described as an “upscale restaurant offering New American cuisine & a raw bar, plus a hookah & cocktail lounge.”

Its success is reflected in a 4.2-star rating, boasting over 1,900 Google reviews.

Google currently lists the restaurant as closed.
