There is concern for Bernie Winter in Coronation Street next week when she collapses at her wedding, but actress Jane Hazlegrove has calmed our nerves with confirmation of her future on the cobbles.
Jane first hit our screens as Bernie in 2019, and has been a staple of the show ever since.
During her time on the cobbles, Bernie has been involved in some huge storylines, including son Paul Foreman’s MND diagnosis and tracking down the son she put up for adoption as a baby.
Recently, her relationship with Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin) got more serious when the couple got engaged, before Dev jetted off to India for several weeks.
During his time away, Aadi Alahan (Adam Hussain) racked up some huge debts, and confided the truth in Bernie.
Since then, they have been trying to hide their financial problems from Dev by bringing the wedding forward and scrimping on the details, plotting to use some of the wedding fund to balance the books.

Now, the wedding is set to air next week, but things don’t exactly go to plan, as Bernie suffers shortness of breath before collapsing.
‘Suddenly Bernie can’t breathe, the poor love, and ends up in A&E,’ Jane told My Weekly.
‘Dev, and a lot of people, think she’s on her way out because it’s quite serious.
‘She is really frightened, this has come from nowhere and she can’t breathe. It’ s terrifying. Is she going to be okay?’

Fortunately, it appears that she will be, as Jane confirmed that she has signed another year’s contract while reflecting on her time on the ITV soap.
‘I only came into Coronation Street for 10 episodes to get a new bathroom,’ she revealed to the publication.
‘I’d run out of money and when they said, “Will you come and do Corrie for a bit?” I thought, “Yes! That will pay for a nice white suite!”
‘I’ve been here for six years now and I’ve just signed for another year. It’s a lovely place to work. I feel very blessed.’
