Jason Momoa, Noah Centineo and the rest of the new Street Fighter cast appeared at The Game Awards to debut the film’s first trailer.

Capcom’s classic fighting game series returned to blazing form with 2023’s Street Fighter 6, but a new movie adaptation is hoping to lift the franchise’s gravitas in Hollywood.

We’ve known about the existence of a new Street Fighter movie since it was announced in April 2023, but a large chunk of the cast, including Noah Centineo and Jason Momoa, made their first public appearance together at The Game Awards 2025 to debut the first trailer.

The brief clip is basically a sizzle reel of different characters in action, including Andrew Koji’s Ryu, David Dastmalchian’s M. Bison, Cody Rhodes as Guile, Curtis Jackson aka 50 Cent as Balrog, and WWE star Roman Reigns as Akuma, closing with a nod to the car smashing bonus stage from Street Fighter 2.

It’s hard to gleam too much from the clip, but it’s largely what you’d expect from a modern Street Fighter film, with a camp tone not far removed from the 1994 live action romp starring Jean-Claude Van Damme and Kylie Minogue.

The unserious tone might be a byproduct of who’s behind the camera. Street Fighter is directed by Kitao Sakurai, who is best known for his collaborations with comedian Eric André on The Eric Andre Show and 2021 film Bad Trip. André appears in this film too as announcer Don Sauvage, so it’s likely going to be in the same comedic spirit.

Following the debut of the trailer, Paramount has released several character posters, showing Jason Momoa’s Blanka (who thankfully looks a lot better than the orange wig version seen in the 1994 film), along with Orville Peck’s Vega, Noah Centineo’s Ken, Olivier Richter as Zangief, and Mel Jarnson as Cammy, amongst others.

Other cast members include Callina Liang as Chun-Li, Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki, Vidyut Jammwal as Dhalsim, Hirooki Goto as E. Honda, Rayna Vallandingham as Juli, and Alexander Volkanovski as Joe.

While some have their concerns, it seems like Street Fighter fans are largely on board with what’s been shown so far. ‘This looks demented, I’m in,’ one X user wrote. ‘This s*** bout to be silly as hell and AWESOME. I can’t wait,’ another added.

This is technically the fourth live action version of Street Fighter, following the 1994 film directed by Steven E. de Souza, the 2009 flop Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, and web series Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist.

Street Fighter is set to be released in cinemas worldwide on October 16, 2026.
