A private investigator described the harrowing crime scene where 11-year-old Jayden Lee Meek’s body was discovered.
Police arrested Jayden’s mother, 31-year-old Tiffany Meek, who now faces charges of murder, defeating the ends of justice, crimen injuria, and obstructing the course of justice. She appeared before the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 14 July.
The boy was found on a staircase a day after he was reported missing in May 2025. He was taken to hospital where he was declared dead.
INVESTIGATOR SPEAKS OUT
In an interview with eNCA, an investigator close to the case said Jayden was allegedly beaten severely and was hidden under blankets on his bed. He also claimed that someone had tampered with evidence in the home.
Describing the crime scene as gruesome, the investigator alleged that the 11-year-old’s body had been cleaned. He further stated that the murderer attempted to clean the blood from the flat with bleach. However, the blood was still discovered under UV light.
SAPS CALLS FOR COMMUNITY INTEVENTION
The tragic murder has rocked the nation and cast a spotlight on child protection in the country. Speaking outside court, Deputy Police Minister Polly Boshielo urged community members to speak out against abuse.
She said police cannot be in homes and behind closed doors and encouraged the community to report any form of abuse.
“It is rather unfortunate that Jayden was killed and found in the very space where he should have been safe and secure – his residential complex,” said Boshielo.
Commenting on the case, the deputy minister said that more arrests may be possible as investigations into the murder continue.
