Jeff Bezos’ Wife Reveals Major Decision About Family’s Wealth

Lauren Sánchez Bezos appeared Monday morning on Good Morning America to share how she and her billionaire husband, Jeff Bezos, are going to spend their money.

No, this won’t be for a lavish party, an expansive mansion, or a $500 million super yacht. Sánchez Bezos announced that the money is being spent on a great cause.

The Announcement

In an exclusive appearance on ABC’s morning program, Sánchez Bezos shared that the family’s Day 1 Family Fund has committed $102.5 million in new grants this year to 32 nonprofits across the country. The foundation was founded in 2018 by the couple.

“This year, we’re able to give more than $100 million — it makes a huge impact,” she said on Good Morning America.

She added, “This is just the beginning. It’s a $2 billion commitment, so we’re gonna continue doing it. We have an incredible group of advisers on the ground — they know what communities need. We’ve been able to give to all 50 states, and they really tell us what places like the [Washington, D.C., nonprofit] Community of Hope need.”

Who Gets the Grants?

According to the foundation, the 32 recipients hail from 20 states, Washington, D.C., and Guam, each of which “will receive the immediate donations … to continue their compassionate, needle-moving work to help families move from unsheltered homelessness and shelters to permanent housing and access services to achieve stability.”

The Booker T. Washington Community Service Center in San Francisco, California; Care Resource Community Health Centers, Inc. in Miami, Florida; and Union Station Homeless Services were among the top recipients, each receiving $5 million in grants.

In 2024, the foundation awarded $110.5 million to 40 nonprofits across 23 states.
