The Bear star Jeremy Allen White never graduated high school — until last night.
According to the actor, 34, he was not a good student and “had a hard time paying attention.”
“We would have lunch, and we could leave the school at lunch and go eat wherever we’d like. But oftentimes, I would just leave at lunch and never come back,” White explained during the Thursday, October 23, episode of Live With Kelly and. Mark. “I would go up to Central Park, I would go hang out with friends, I would go back to Brooklyn, if my parents weren’t home I’d go back to the house.”
Because he skipped so much school, White did not have enough credits to graduate.
That all changed during the premiere for the Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere premiere at the New York Film Festival on Wednesday night. White’s former drama teacher, Greg Parente — whom he invited to the event because he’s a huge Bruce Spingsteen fan — presented him with a gift.
“At the end of the night, he gave me a gift. I was like, ‘Oh, you don’t have to do this. This is crazy. What are you getting me a gift for?'” White explained. “I open it up and it is my high school diploma.”
He continued, “As of last night, at 34 years old, I’ve graduated high school.”
