Jeremy Strong Hasn’t Spoken to Jesse Eisenberg About ‘Social Network 2’

At the fifth annual Academy Museum Gala held in Los Angeles on Oct. 18, Deliver Me From Nowhere star Jeremy Strong gave an update to The Hollywood Reporter on Aaron Sorkin’s hotly anticipated sequel to The Social Network (2010). And it turns out he hasn’t yet reached out to the former Mark Zuckerberg actor.

Strong Hasn’t Spoken to Original Zuckerberg Actor

Sorkin won an Academy Award for penning the screenplay to The Social Network, which was directed by David Fincher and starred Jesse Eisenberg as Zuckerberg. Sorkin is taking over directorial reins from Fincher, while Strong is taking over the role of Zuckerberg from Eisenberg. However, according to the Succession star, he’s yet to speak with Eisenberg about the casting switch. “No,” Strong bluntly replied when asked. “I think [Eisenberg’s performance] has nothing to do with what I’m going to do.”

While The Social Network charted the creation of Facebook, Sorkin’s sequel, set for release in October 2026, will reportedly follow Facebook engineer Frances Haugen (Anora’s Mikey Madison) as she teams up with an enterprising Wall Street Journal reporter (Strong’s Deliver Me From Nowhere co-star Jeremy Allen White) to call attention to Facebook’s malfeasance. It’s Strong’s third collaboration with Sorkin following Molly’s Game (2017) and The Trial of the Chicago 7 (2020).

“One of the Great Scripts I’ve Ever Read”

“It’s one of the great scripts I’ve ever read,” Strong said. “It speaks to our time, it touches the third rail of everything happening in our world. It’s a great character—fascinating, complex—and I’m approaching it with great care and empathy and objectivity. I’ve made two films with Aaron, and third time’s the charm.”
