The photos show a large open-air space designed for events, set alongside the Mall of Africa and close to the N1 Allandale off-ramp north of Joburg.
The 1.3-hectare park opened in March 2016, alongside the launch of the Mall.
It was originally designed as a central green space linking the Mall of Africa with surrounding mixed-use developments, including office towers, residences and future precincts.
Waterfall City Park is now being repositioned as a key outdoor events space for Joburg.
At the centre of the park is a 3 000 square metre event zone. The area can be configured for corporate launches, lifestyle markets, festivals and community events.
Unlike many pop-up outdoor venues, the park was created with permanent infrastructure in place. This includes three-phase power, bathroom facilities and controlled access points.
There are also dedicated entry and exit routes for event build-ups. Additionally, on-site containers can be used for storage or operational needs during functions.
This setup is aimed at reducing the cost and time usually associated with large outdoor productions. This means organisers are able to move in and out more efficiently.
The venue’s location is another drawcard. Its proximity to the Mall of Africa provides high visibility and easy access for the public.
“Waterfall City Park gives Johannesburg a fresh and distinctive outdoor venue that is both functional and inspiring,” said Yasmeen Lorgat, general manager at Mall of Africa.
“We built it to support bold ideas, meaningful connection and events that people remember and we know it will do exactly that.”
