John Stamos on Whether He’d Leave His Wife for Lori Loughlin

During a recent appearance on the Good Guys podcast, John Stamos revealed why he and Full House co-star Lori Loughlin’s close friendship never turned romantic despite them “being single at the same time.” Stamos made headlines for remarks he made in the same interview about Loughlin’s “narcissist[ic]” estranged husband, Mossimo Gianulli. But when it came time to address his and Loughlin’s decades-long friendship, the Scream Queens star explained that there was never a romantic inkling between the two.

‘You Guys Were Romantic’

“A lot of people think, ‘Oh, you guys were romantic,’ or whatever,” Stamos recalled. “You know, I happened to say she was the one that got away in something—I think it was before I met [current wife] Caitlin [McHugh]—and, you know, it was an interesting thing. I wrote about in the book, there was a very small window of the two of us being single at the same time,” he said of his 2023 memoir.

Stamos went on to liken Loughlin to Olivia Newton John’s character in Grease (1978)  “before the leather,” while likening his ex-wife, Rebecca Romijn, to “Sandy after the leather and the, ‘Tell me about it, stud.’”

Stamos continued: “There was a moment where I had the choice, I think, and I was more into the rebellious. Lori was so sweet, and I loved working with her, but she was too nice for me.”

Stamos Revealed His True Feelings About Loughlin

When Good Guys hosts Ben Sofer and Josh Peck asked Stamos “the biggest question,” whether he would “ever leave [his] wife for” Loughlin, Stamos didn’t miss a beat. “No f—-ing way! I’m not Mormon. Do you do that with your wife? Are you a swinger?” he asked the hosts.

Stamos clarified that his and Loughlin’s relationship has “always [been] platonic,” though he did allow that they shared one intimate moment decades ago, when Full House was in its nascency.  “I always thought that we made out on some ride at Disneyland—I’ve known her since the early ’80s,” he said. “I remembered, I think she said it didn’t happen. So, I don’t know if it was something I made up in my mind. You know, some kind of fantasy.”

Stamos Blasted Loughlin’s Estranged Husband

But their “platonic” relationship didn’t prevent Stamos from blasting Giannulli on Loughlin’s behalf. “I will never talk to him again,” Stamos vowed. “He’s a terrible narcissist, and I don’t think you ever get out of that unless you’re able to…I pray for this guy,” he continued. “I pray that he gets a hold of whatever hole that he’s trying to fill, however he’s trying to fill it. I pray that he realizes that what he had was everything that anyone could ever hope for and that he gets some help. I think this guy needs help.”
