João Cotrim de Figueiredo, a candidate supported by the Liberal Initiative, announced José Miguel Júdice, a PSD leader and former president of the Bar Association, as the national representative of his presidential candidacy. “I chose him because he is a man of free spirit, with a lucid spirit, and who, in his public life, has already supported several people for important positions, and he has done so by always choosing to support people he trusts and likes politically”, he said late Wednesday night in the interview with CNN.
The biggest curiosity is that Júdice, last week, was present at the presentation of a biographical book about António José Seguro, written by Rui Gomes. This morning, Júdice assumed that if Cotrim does not reach the second round, he will support António José Seguro.
Júdice is the father of the Minister of Justice and has always distanced himself from the social democratic choice of Marques Mendes.
From what DN found out, Seguro will have Luís Parreirão at his side. The former Secretary of State for Internal Administration and Public Works will be announced in the coming days among the candidate’s supporters. It should be remembered that Ricardo Sá Fernandes, currently leader of Livre, also spoke in favor of Seguro in words to TSF, considering that the “left should not be divided into chapels”.
The presidential elections are scheduled for January 18 and there are 10 party-backed candidates at this stage. Jorge Pinto, this Friday, should see his candidacy confirmed by Livre members.
