Jose Mourinho is keen to sign wantaway Manchester United flop Jadon Sancho and has already talked with the Englishman about a move to Fenerbahce, according to reports.

Sancho is expected to leave United this summer having been told he has not future at the club under Ruben Amorim.

The winger spent last season on loan at Chelsea but Enzo Maresca’s side opted not to take up their £25 million permanent option to sign the winger and have paid a £5m penalty fee to send him back to United.

The 25-year-old has attracted interest from several European clubs, with Napoli and Juventus among those said to be interested in a deal.

But widespread reports now suggest that Turkish club Fenerbahce are keen on a deal for Sancho and have been given the green light by head coach Mourinho to pursue a deal.

Transfer journalist Ben Jacobs suggests Fenerbahce could table a deal in the region of £15m, although United are said to be holding out for a figure around £25m.

The reports adds that Mourinho, who won the League Cup and Europa League at United, has already held a direct call with Sancho to try and convince him of the move.

Sancho’s mammoth £300,000-a-week wages could prevent a stumbling block in any potential deal, however, with Fenerbahce only willing to offer a weekly salary of around £165,000-a-week.

Mourinho gives verdict on Sancho’s United struggles

Speaking in June last year, Mourinho was critical of United’s then-manager Erik ten Hag for failing to get the best out of Sancho.

The Englishman enjoyed an impressive few seasons at Borussia Dortmund prior to his move to the Premier League, but flattered to deceive at Old Trafford before a public falling out with Ten Hag.

And the Portuguese tactician believes that Sancho may benefit from a more hands-on personal approach to get him back to his best.

‘As a player, we know his talent,” Mourinho told TNT Sports. ‘We saw what he can do. What happened at Man United, if I look to my own history, sometimes I fail with players.

‘Sometimes I couldn’t create the right empathy, I couldn’t understand the player DNA and I couldn’t help players to grow up in the right direction. In the majority of times, yes, I did it, but on some occasions I couldn’t.

‘Sometimes we have to run with the experiences and try to understand the nature of the players.

‘They have the talent but, they don’t have the mindset you want in a player so sure they will make mistakes but the manager was not able to get the best out of him.’
