The Junto Pelo Povo (JPP) party, which in May this year elected for the first time a deputy to the Assembly of the Republic, in this case Filipe Sousa, for the Madeira constituency, decided at a meeting of the National Political Commission that it will not support any candidate for the Presidency of the Republic, in the elections scheduled for January 18, 2026.
“The JPP National Political Committee deliberated yesterday [quinta-feira, 23 de outubro]not support any candidacy for the Presidency of the Republic”, began by saying Élvio Sousa, the president of the JPP, in a message sent to DN, adding that militants will be given the freedom to support candidates, but always individually, without binding the party.
Élvio Sousa further explained that he will not support any presidential candidate and revealed the current priorities for his mandate: “For my part, I will not support any candidate. I will dedicate, among other aspects, time to preparing the AGENDA-MADEIRA and AUTONOMY 2025-2045, a development plan to formally begin after the municipal challenge, to listen to society, work with experts and intersectoral individuals, to build a solid, innovative and deeply autonomous development plan for the next 20 years”.
