Kaizer Chiefs may need to reassess their transfer priorities after Maxi Nzengeli, the Young Africans star previously linked with a move to Naturena, signed a fresh two-year deal with the Tanzanian giants.
Nzengeli, 25, had emerged as a prime target due to his versatility. He excels on both flanks and through the middle, an ideal profile for Chiefs as they aim to revitalise their attack with speed, skill, and creativity ahead of the 2025/2026 season.
Nzengeli shines in continental campaign
The Congolese attacker joined Yanga on 13 July 2023 from AS Maniema Union and made an immediate impact in continental football. He started 11 CAF Champions League matches, playing a key role in Yanga’s impressive run to the quarter-finals.
His performances sparked interest across the continent, with many clubs, including Chiefs, closely monitoring the dynamic forward’s situation.
Yanga confirm deal, silence transfer speculation
“The information that has been circulating on social media is nothing but propaganda,” a club insider told the publication.
“Those spreading it know their motives, but the truth is that Maxi has already signed a new two-year contract.”
Yanga tighten grip as star departures mount
With star winger Stephane Aziz Ki sealing a move to Wydad Casablanca and forward Clement Mzize also linked with a potential exit. Yanga moved quickly to retain Nzengeli, viewed by many as the heartbeat of their attacking setup.
Chiefs will now have to explore alternative options as they continue their rebuilding efforts for the new campaign.
Could Kaizer Chiefs have done more to get Nzengeli?
