Kaizer Chiefs questioned by Khanye, again

Kaizer Chiefs have left fans puzzled. Six new signings have been made so far, excluding Asanele Velebayi and Luke Baartman, yet there’s no new goalkeeper in sight.

Despite entering preseason with uncertainty between the posts, the club focused their recruitment efforts elsewhere, intensifying speculation about their long-term keeper strategy.

Kaizer Chiefs’ decision has raised questions from the club’s hyper critic and former player Junior Khanye, who believes Amakhosi are overlooking a vital area.

Khanye’s central question points at Kaizer Chiefs’ decision to retain their existing goalkeepers instead of bringing in new competition, a choice many see as risky in a demanding season ahead. I am surprised that Kaizer Chiefs didn’t look at the goalkeeping department properly,” Khanye said via iDiski Times.

“With the season ahead and the amount of games you’re going to play now, there’s no hpointment. You really need competition, you really need those guys to compete with someone else.

“I just think those two keepers are going to be under pressure. They’ve been playing week-in and week-out. Maybe they rested…but someone else has got to push them.

GOALKEEPER DEPTH FOR GAME LOAD

The former Kaizer Chiefs winger added: “The Nedbank Cup and MTN8 cup competitions, then your league games, your continental games, those guys are going to be fatigue[d] or maybe injured at some stage during the season.

“Kaizer Chiefs have to go out there and get a keeper. I’m not saying they must go big money and get someone who is world class. But they must bring someone who can come in, maybe start in certain games.

“They must start bringing competition to the squad… They also need to get a guy that can come in, maybe rotate those games,” Khanye concluded.

In the meantime, the club’s Rwandan goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari is set to leave Amakhosi after he did not travel to the Netherlands for the club’s pre-season camp.
