Kaizer Chiefs secure midfielder with new deal ahead of pre-season

Kaizer Chiefs have reached a breakthrough in contract talks with key midfielder Yusuf Maart, with his representative confirming that a new deal will be finalised next week.

Maart’s initial contract, signed three years ago when he joined from Sekhukhune United, expires at the end of this month. However, both parties have now agreed on terms, ensuring the Bafana Bafana midfielder will remain at Naturena.

“Yes, we are renewing his contract in the coming week,” confirmed agent Karabo Tshabuse, speaking to SABC Sport. She did not reveal the length of the new deal but indicated negotiations had reached their conclusion.

From trophy drought to CAF qualification

Maart ended the 2024/2025 season on a high, playing a crucial role in Kaizer Chiefs’ Nedbank Cup triumph over fierce rivals Orlando Pirates. His stunning goal secured a 2-1 win in Durban, breaking a decade-long trophy drought and booking the club’s return to continental football via the CAF Confederation Cup.

The 28-year-old’s form and leadership in midfield made his contract renewal a top priority for the club ahead of the 2025/2026 campaign.

Chiefs begin squad changes before Dutch tour

With a European pre-season camp in the Netherlands looming next month, Kaizer Chiefs have begun restructuring their squad. The Glamour Boys have already snapped up defenders Paseka Mako and Thabiso Monyane from Orlando Pirates on free transfers.

Meanwhile, Chiefs have also parted ways with several players. Edmilson Dove, Sabelo Radebe, Ranga Chivaviro, and Mduduzi Mdantsane will all depart after the club opted not to renew their contracts.

What’s next for Kaizer Chiefs?

The club remains focused on finalising outstanding potential deals like Ethan Chislett. And preparing for their pre-season tour, with Maart’s renewal marking a major step in their plans.

Was it a good idea for Kaizer Chiefs to renew with Maart?
