Kaizer Chiefs have been warned not to sign Percy Tau, who his currently a free agent and has publicly stated his desire to join the Soweto giants for next to nothing.
Former Kaizer Chiefs forward Katlego Mphela believes signing the former Premier League player would continue a unsatisfactory trend, saying, “In the past few seasons Chiefs have not been doing well despite winning a trophy last season and they need players who will help them change the team’s fortunes,” said Mphela.
“But I don’t think signing Percy Tau will be the solution if you look at the history of most former Sundowns players who joined Chiefs, including myself. We don’t live up to expectations. There are a lot of expectations, and that puts pressure on the players.”
“Look at what happened to Keagan Dolly, Khama Billiat or Edward Manqele.” “Yes, they are different players but expectations are the same and history is the same,” he added.
“It’s a tricky one because Percy has a lot of quality and experience but the history will tell you the truth about former Sundowns players at Kaizer Chiefs. It’s not a good one.”
Youngster inbound?
Meanwhile, on the other end of the age spectrum, AmaKhosi are eyeing 19-year-old sensation Neo Rapoo, who looks likely to leave SuperSport United this winter.
“Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs are both keen to sign SuperSport United left-back Neo Rapoo ahead of the new season,” an inside source revealed.
“His performances as he led South Africa U20 to the Africa Cup of Nations title earned him interest in Scandinavia and the Gulf but sources as Matsatsansa have confirmed Chiefs and Pirates are both seriously after the player who is seen as future senior national team left-back.”
“With Orlando Pirates having released Paseka Mako and the retirement of Innocent Maela, their interest on the promising full-back comes as no surprise, while Chiefs are looking to remedy a position that has plagued them in the last couple of seasons.”
