Both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have made 10 or more signings this season.
Both teams won a trophy each last season but it is Amakhosi who are looking to compete with the likes of the Buccaneers and Mamelodi Sundowns.
In the past 10 years, Masandawana have won the league nine times while Pirates have claimed six trophies and finished league runner-up four times. Chiefs claimed their first cup in 10 years last season but still finished ninth in the Betway Premiership.
Should Kaizer Chiefs and Pirates still sign players?
Looking at Amakhosi, a total of 10 players have been brought in and it’s difficult to see why Nasreddine Nabi will want to bring more.
Asanele Velebayi, Luke Baartman, Nkanyisa Shinga and Etiosa Ighodaro are some of the new players who have not made their debut for Chiefs.
Given Msimango, Rushwin Dortley, Samekelo Zwane, George Matlou and Happy Mashiane have been yet to feature this season. The five players are currently in the stands and judging by the way the club is performing, they might get little game time this season.
Just like Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates have the same problem. New signings such as Nkosikhona Ndaba Masindi Nemtajela have not been utilised, while Thabiso Lebitso, Olisa Ndah, Thabiso Sesane and Makhehlene Makhaula are yet to make an appearance this season.
Who has the strongest bench? Kaizer Chiefs or Orlando Pirates?
Amakhosi have the likes of Reeve Frosler, Shinga and Dortley as cover in defence and in the midfield, Siphesihle Ndlovu, Mduduzi Chabalala and Ethan Chistlett can come in and change the game either in attacking positions or defensive.
Upfront, Wandile Duba, Ashley Du Preez and Flavio Silva are more likely to appear from the bench.
When it comes to Pirates, it seems to Buccaneers have a stronger bench than Kaizer Chiefs, especially in midfield. Kabelo Dlamini and Makhaula are not starters and were both instrumental last season for the Sea Robbers.
Sinoxolo Kwayiba can add creative flair when replacing Patrick Maswanganyi in the middle of the park. If Abdeslam Ouaddou decides to play Relebohile Mofokeng on the left and Kamogelo Sebelebele on the right, it means Oswin Appollis will be forced to come from the bench.
So pound for pound, Orlando Pirates have a stronger bench than Kaizer Chiefs.
