Kaizer Chiefs waiting to sign 11th striker in five years

Kaizer Chiefs are fully pursuing what will be an 11th striker signing in five Betway Premiership seasons. Etiosa Ighodaro, who recently played on loan at AmaZulu from Mamelodi Sundowns, has not actually signed for Amakhosi as previously claimed.

With the Betway Premiership starting in less than a month, the 24-year-old Nigerian has still not been seen in a Kaizer Chiefs tracksuit.

What’s actually happening? Didn’t his deal with Mamelodi Sundowns run its course?

According to the latest report, the towering striker is still a Sundowns player until June 2026. Amakhosi are therefore waiting on Sundowns to make a decision on Ighodaro.

Kaizer Chiefs news: R70 million income and experienced number six

“At the moment Kaizer Chiefs are waiting on Sundowns,” an insider told Soccer Laduma. “Ighodaro has one year remaining on his contract with Sundowns and only if they can release him first as a free agent or if they can buy him from the remaining months on his contract.

“But Chiefs are interested in him and depending on what Sundowns’ decision is, then Chiefs would still sign him before the start of the season.”

11TH STRIKER IN FIVE YEARS?

Following the signing of Flavio Silva, Kaizer Chiefs attempted a 10th center forward solution since 2020:

  1. Samir Nurkovic
  2. Leonardo Castro
  3. Lazarous Kambole
  4. Christian Saile
  5. Caleb Bimenyimana
  6. Jasond Gonzalez
  7. Ashley Du Preez
  8. Ranga Chivaviro
  9. Tashreeq Morris
  10. Flavio Silva.

MAMELODI SUNDOWNS STANCE ON ETIOSA IGHODARO

In the meantime, Sundowns will have a say on Kaizer Chiefs’ pursuit of Ighodaro.

“As soon as he obtains his Permanent Residence Permit, then Sundowns are believed to be willing to keep him because he won’t affect their foreign quota and then it would be difficult for Chiefs to sign him this season,” the insider continued.

“But it’s believed that if there is a fee to be paid then Sundowns would consider letting him go whether it’s to Kaizer Chiefs or any other team,” he concluded.
