Keanu Reeves’ impressive charisma took center stage again during a recent Good Fortune interview with Jason and Travis Kelce on the New Heights podcast. The trio discussed a broad range of subjects, including Reeves’ former playing days as a hockey goalie, the process behind working with Aziz Ansari and Seth Rogen on the movie and much more.
However, while Reeves spent many years as a hockey player in the 1980s, his first choice of which athlete he’d swap bodies with wasn’t anyone who spent time on the ice. Instead, the 61-year-old actor opted to go a completely different direction, but had a great reason for it. He offered fans a look into how he reviews athletic excellence and showed his appreciation for some of the most impressive athletes in the world.
Keanu Reeves’ Choice for a Body-Swap Showcases Appreciation of Significant Work Ethic
After the question was posed to Reeves about a potential body-swap and who he’d choose, the longtime actor immediately pointed to the big moments in sports where people go “into the zone.” Reeves admitted that he’s a big fan of the Olympics, which ultimately led him to choose Usain Bolt as his first potential swap.
“I don’t know, I mean, you guys are involved in athletics, so…what would be a moment, we hear about those moments in sports where people go into the zone,” Reeves said. “Where you’re almost unconscious and you’re just instinctive…and then I love the Olympics. …Four years in a lifetime coming up to that one moment…”
“So imagine being like, Usain Bolt, breaking the world record,” Reeves decided.
It was a great choice from Reeves, and while many may have expected something along these lines, it highlights his admiration for skill and discipline over flash and fame. It’s a decision that fits perfectly with Reeves’ reputation for humility and grounded perspective.
The Good Fortune star used the question to reflect on athletic focus and physical mastery. Reeves sees greatness through a lens of respect.
This type of authenticity is part of what keeps Reeves among the most beloved figures in Hollywood. The question led to a detailed discussion on Reeves’ history as a hockey player, where he revealed that he reached a fairly high level as a goalie.
‘Good Fortune’ Starring Keanu Reeves, Aziz Ansari and Seth Rogen Draws Strong Early Reviews
With Good Fortune officially in theaters on Oct. 17, it’s been interesting to see the early critics’ reviews slowly roll in. It’s infrequent for comedies to debut in theaters over recent years, but Ansari, who directed the film was adament about helping the push to return the genre back to the days of old.
At least in terms of reviews, that choice has things heading in the right direction. Good Fortune has remained around 80 percent on popular review site Rotten Tomatoes, currently sitting right on the number based on 51 reviews.
The reviews on Metacritic have also been solid, with the movie not earning a single “negative” mark from 20 critics thus far. Good Fortune holds a 67 rating, with 15 critics giving it a “positive” grade and five checking in as “mixed” about the film.
