Why We Love This Deal
As a maker of some of the best hiking boots out there, Keen doesn’t need to bother with affordable shoes. In fact, deals on the brand’s outdoor footwear are seemingly less common this year than in years past. But something is going on over at REI right now—a ton of Keen footwear just dropped in price, including this waterproof hiker with an intensely grippy sole.
The Keen Zionic NXT Waterproof Hiking Boots are on sale for $139, nearly $50 off their usual price. As this is one of REI’s discontinued item sales, the boot will never be restocked. If you want a pair in your size, don’t wait. This will lead you to the blue and orange version, but a tan and green version of the boot is also available at the same price.

What Shoppers Should Know
- Sizes Available: From 8 to 13
- Waterproofing: Keen waterproof/breathable membrane
- Special Features: Mesh/TPU upper, quick-dry lining, high-rebound foam midsole, full-length plate support, and uses Keen’s all-terrain rubber for the outsole
- Best Use Case: Tough, wet hikes
The Keen Zionic NXT Waterproof Hiking Boots are built tough, yet light and soft for the trail. That’s because each boot is created with a breathable, waterproof mesh upper and has a footbed that’s coated with high-rebound foam on one side and a combination of full-length plate support and all-terrain rubber on the other.
When you put all this together, adding in the quick-dry linings, you have a boot that doesn’t fit the stereotypes. It’s not a thick, clogging boot by any means. Instead, it’ll feel more like a running or walking shoe. And, considering its looks, it can be worn as such without feeling self-conscious about it.

What Shoppers Are Saying
One shopper noted that “these are lightweight and have some of the best grip out there.” And if you look at the bottom, you can see why. The lugs push out and pull in for a combination of great contact points and the ability to conquer small pebbles that would otherwise roll an ankle.
Another hiker pointed out how quickly the boot feels great on your foot. After just a couple of hikes, they reported that the boot was completely broken in, though it was great from the start. They also noted that the boot is a “perfect fit” and is the “same size I buy in the Vans that I wear around daily,” a good reference point for many.
The Keen Zionic NXT Waterproof Hiking Boots are down to $139, but stock is limited, so your size could sell out at any time.
