Kelly Clarkson is “devastated” for her kids as she navigates an incredibly painful time following the death of her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock.
The talent manager and father to Clarkson’s children, River Rose, 11, and Remington Alexander, nine, died on August 7 at age 48, after quietly battling cancer for more than three years.
Brandon Blackstock never spoke publicly about his illness before he died. But Kelly Clarkson shared that he “had been ill” on Wednesday, August 6.
In a statement shared by his family, they revealed, “It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away. Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”

Kelly Clarkson continues to prioritise her two children after the death of their father, Brandon Blackstock. A source told PEOPLE the singer-songwriter has “been devastated” for her two kids.
“When she found out that he was sick, she remained protective of him for their sake,” the source added. “Kelly has always tried to keep things classy. It became clear earlier this year that Brandon was not doing well. She’s been devastated for the kids.”
Even during the hardest parts of their 2020 divorce, Clarkson never spoke negatively about Blackstock to their children. “The divorce was incredibly difficult for her messy, painful and something she felt terrible about,” the insider continued. “But she always wanted her kids to have the best relationship possible with their dad. She never spoke poorly about Brandon to the kids.”

Kelly has been candid in past interviews about wanting to raise emotionally honest children. She’s often shared how she checks in with River and Remy every night to make sure they feel safe and loved.
Earlier this week, Clarkson postponed several shows from her Las Vegas residency to be “fully present” for her kids. She wrote in a heartfelt post, “While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them. I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows and I appreciate your grace, kindness and understanding.”
