MORE ON THE ARRESTS
Four suspects linked to DJ Sumbody’s 2022 murder were arrested in Gauteng on Monday. SAPS revealed that three suspects are believed to be hitmen hired to carry out the fatal ambush.
The fourth suspect is allegedly the mastermind who planned and ordered DJ Sumbody’s assassination.
“The [police] team arrested four men between the ages of 45 and 60 in connection with the murder of a popular South African DJ, Oupa John Sefoka, popularly known as DJ Sumbody. Gauteng organised crime detectives worked on the case and later roped in the SAPS political killings task team to assist,” said National police spokesperson Brig Athlenda Mathe.
The weapon allegedly used was seized and linked to other high-profile murder cases. The four suspects face three murder charges tied to the 2022 ambush that killed DJ Sumbody and his bodyguards, Sibusiso Mokoena and Sandile Myeza.
They appeared briefly in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court today. The case was postponed to 29 July 2025 for further investigation and verification of new forensic evidence.
