The US and Iran participated in five rounds of negotiations on the nuclear program, but the dialogue broke down after Israel launched the 12-day war against the Iranian regime and the Americans helped by attacking underground nuclear facilities. Trump claims they were completely destroyed, but Iran denies this.
Last week, the American president argued in the Knesset that Israel and Iran should make peace. “It would be great if we made a peace deal with them. Wouldn’t that be great?” Trump told Israeli deputies. “I think they want it”he added. Khamenei rejects this possibility.
“Trump says he is a negotiator, but if an agreement is accompanied by coercion and its outcome is predetermined, it is not an agreement, but rather an imposition and bullying”the Iranian supreme leader said, according to state media.
Khamenei also once again accused the US of being “the main accomplices in Zionist war crimes” in the Gaza Strip, as US “resources and weapons” were “made available in abundance to the Zionist regime so that they could be launched on the defenseless population” in the Palestinian enclave.
“The US president says he is fighting terrorism. But more than 20,000 children and babies were murdered in these attacks. Were these children terrorists?”, asks Khamenei.
“You, the USA, are the terrorists”, added the Iranian leader, accusing the Americans of creating the Islamic State and keeping it “in reserve” to “use it one day” whenever they want. “Several elements of the Islamic State are currently under US control. They are trapped somewhere to be used wherever they want, at any time,” said Khamenei, according to quotes in X.
Iran warned this weekend that it no longer feels limited by the 2015 nuclear agreement, after it expired. The agreement, among other things, limited uranium enrichment and mandated regular inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency. Tehran no longer complied with 100%, after the US left in 2018, being accused of enriching uranium to a level higher than what is needed for civilian use.
