KwaZulu-Natal weather: Heat inland, showers on the coast

KwaZulu-Natal’s inland towns are set for hot weather conditions this week. Areas such as Newcastle and Ladysmith will experience maximums in the lower 30s, while Pietermaritzburg is forecast to reach around 31°C.

Forecaster Phemelo Zonke explained: “Hot conditions are expected across inland KwaZulu-Natal, particularly in areas like Pietermaritzburg and Newcastle, with daytime highs climbing past 30 degrees.”

KwaZulu-Natal weather: Coastal showers bring relief

In contrast, KZN’s coastal belt will see cloudier conditions with rain chances later in the week. Additionally, Durban and Richards Bay are forecast for slightly milder weather, with maximums in the mid-20s.

Zonke added: “On Thursday, showers and rain are expected along the southern and eastern coastal regions, stretching into the adjacent interior.”

Fire hazards remain in other provinces

While KwaZulu-Natal faces minimal fire risks, nearby provinces such as the Free State, Northern Cape, and parts of the Eastern Cape remain vulnerable to runaway veld fires. SAWS has advised communities in those regions to act responsibly and reduce fire hazards.

How should KwaZulu-Natal balance its inland heat with the need to manage coastal rainfall impacts effectively?
