Real Madrid’s French attacker Kylian Mbappé received his first European Golden Boot trophy this Friday, which rewards last season’s top scorer in European leagues, and he wished to be able to repeat the award in the current one.
“This award means a lot to me. I am very happy and I want to continue making history. There were 31 goals (in the 2024-2025 Spanish LaLiga season) and this year I have started very well, so I want to win it again next year,” said Mbappé in a brief intervention during the award ceremony at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium in Madrid.
Mbappé was the top scorer in the last Spanish LaLiga with those 31 goals, four ahead of the second, the Polish Robert Lewandowski (FC Barcelona).
According to the Golden Boot points scale, which is established according to the category awarded to each European national championship, Mbappé added 62 points and led the classification ahead of the Swede Viktor Gyökeres (58.5 points, then at Sporting Lisbon and now at Arsenal) and the Egyptian Mohamed Salah (58, Liverpool).
Author of the best start to the season of his career (11 goals after 10 days of Spanish LaLiga), Mbappé stated that he was “very happy” and wished that he “could continue making history” with Real Madrid.

The president of Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez, congratulated Mbappé on this award.
“It is the result of your work. I, as president of Real Madrid, am very proud that a player like you is on our team. You perfectly represent the values of this club. You will always remember this day,” he said.
Mbappé is the third merengue player to achieve this award, after the Mexican Hugo Sánchez (1989-1990) and Cristiano Ronaldo (2010-2011, 2013-2014, 2014-2015).
The last French player to win this award was Thierry Henry, who won it in 2004 and 2005 when he played for Arsenal.
