With Landman Season 2, familiar characters have been finding themselves in unfamiliar situations. Cami (Demi Moore) has been dealing with legal troubles she’d never imagined. Cooper (Jacob Lofland) is navigating an unstable new business deal. Ariana (Paulina Chavez) has landed a difficult new bartending job, and more. But, in Episode 4, “Dancing Rainbows,” resident power lawyer, Rebecca Falcone (Kayla Wallace), finds herself on a bump plane ride, which seems to have implications for the rest of the season.
Men’s Journal recently caught up with Kayla Wallace for a quick chat about Rebecca’s arc this season, why she loves the women of Landman, and her opinion of the Taylor Sheridan success secret. Minor spoilers ahead.
How is Rebecca different this season than last season?
Minus the snake scene, I feel like last season, she was pretty in control of every scene she was in. She was very buttoned up, and a straight board, and in control, and we’re starting to see the cracks this season, which is so much fun to play.
For a show called Landman, there sure are a lot of assertive women. What’s your take on that?

P
I love that. How cool is that? We’re in the oil and gas world. It’s a male-dominant world, so I love that we have these vibrant, very dynamic, and very different from one another female characters playing against the world of oil and gas.
More broadly, what do you think the secret is to Taylor Sheridan’s shows?
Well, there’s high-stakes drama in pretty much all of his shows. But he has a way of bringing humanity to the shows. And in our show, there’s a sense of family and a sense of hope. It’s very relatable to many different audiences. That’s the key. From the first time I read the first episode of Season 1, I was like, Oh my god, so many people are going to love this. I found myself reading it as though I was 15-year-old me watching Friday Night Lights.
Right, Landman does seem relatable. But what else? Is there some other secret sauce?
I think it’s the humor that’s kind of sprinkled throughout. All of Taylor’s shows have that.
Speaking of humor, Rebecca gets drunk and has a new relationship at the end of Episode 4…
Who is this mystery man, right? She shows up in this random bathroom. She’s putting together the pieces between the vodka and…whatever happened. So far, in Texas, her experience has been limited. It’s not like this.
I don’t want to give too much away. It’s a big mystery of who this guy is. And some of those questions will be answered before the end of the season.
