Legendary Band Announced for Super Bowl 60 Performance

The NFL’s conference championship games are set, and in less than one week, we’ll know the teams that will represent the NFC and AFC in this season’s Super Bowl.

The Seattle Seahawks are set to meet their NFC West rivals in the Los Angeles Rams, while the Denver Broncos will host an old rival in the New England Patriots.

This year’s Super Bowl will mark the 60th edition of the largest sporting event in America, and organizers have enlisted the help of a legendary local band to celebrate the occasion.

On Sunday, the NFL announced that iconic and influential band Green Day will be a part of the opening ceremony for this year’s big game. The band will welcome several Super Bowl MVPs from the past on to the field, as the past, present and future of football will be honored.

Green Day’s Local Ties to the Super Bowl

“We are super hyped to open Super Bowl 60 right in our backyard!” said the band’s lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong. Green Day was founded in and around nearby Oakland, and this year’s game is taking place in Santa Clara – hosted by the San Francisco 49ers.

“We are honored to welcome the MVPs who’ve shaped the game and open the night for fans all over the world. Let’s have fun! Let’s get loud!”

NFL senior director of event and game presentation Tim Tubito said that Green Day’s performance will be “an incredibly powerful way to kick off Super Bowl LX,” and that the league is looking forward to “creating a collective celebration for fans in the stadium and around the world.”

Green Day’s performance adds them to the list of previously announced acts for this year’s Super Bowl. Charlie Puth is set to perform the national anthem, Brandi Carlile will sing “America the Beautiful,” and Coco Jones is set to sing “Lift Every Voice And Sing.”

More Entertainment at Super Bowl 60

The festivities will continue at halftime when Bad Bunny takes the stage to perform. The Puerto Rican megastar will be the first Spanish-speaking artist to headline a Super Bowl halftime show, a testament to his status as one of the world’s most streamed artists.

This year’s halftime show will mark Bad Bunny’s second appearance on the Super Bowl stage following his cameo during Shakira and Jennifer Lopez’s halftime show at Super Bowl 54 in 2020.

Super Bowl 60 will be the second Super Bowl played at Levi’s Stadium, following Super Bowl 50 in 2016. The Denver Broncos emerged victorious that year, defeating the Carolina Panthers in Peyton Manning‘s farewell game in the NFL.

Fans can tune in to this year’s Super Bowl on NBC, live from Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California on Sunday, February 8.
