Lewis Capaldi hasn’t missed his chance to take aim at a couple who staged a proposal in the middle of his show.
The Scottish singer, 29, is currently travelling around Australia with his Broken by Desire to Be Heavenly Sent tour.
Although fans have been celebrating his return to the stage after a two-year break, several have also used his concerts as a place to propose to their partners.
Since kicking off his shows Down Under last week there have been three public proposals at Lewis’ gigs.
At his opening show at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre last Thursday, a couple got engaged during his song Love the Hell Out of You – with Lewis then jokingly telling them off for ‘taking the shine off me’ and declaring: ‘It’s my concert!’
After offering his congratulations to the happy couple though, Lewis then quipped: ‘I’ll wait with bated breath for my invite to the wedding.’
However during his latest show, the singer jokingly mocked those who briefly took the attention away from him yet again.
At Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena on Saturday night, the crowd started cheering, with the cameras that had been focused on Lewis then turning and capturing the proposal as it unfolded – which was then shown on the big screens.
After the woman said yes to her partner and they shared a kiss, Lewis’ signature sass came out.
‘That’s enough, put the cameras back on me,’ he joked as the audience broke out into laughter.
‘How dare you come here and propose! This is my show.’
He also offered his well-wishes to that pair but also told them to ‘let me know when you’re going to do that because I thought someone had fainted’.
Lewis also went on to share his sympathies for single fans who had just witnessed the public display of romance.
‘There’s a lot of single, sad people at my shows as well, so you just f**king showed them what true love is and now almost 20,000 people hate you,’ he declared.
‘It’s f**kin’ great stuff, well done you guys.’
After announcing a break from music in 2023 following a performance at Glastonbury in which he became unable to sing due to his Tourette’s symptoms, Lewis cancelled his scheduled world tour.
He then returned to the stage at the Worthy Farm festival in June this year, before undertaking a 17-date arena tour around the UK in September.
After selling out 200,000 tickets, Lewis told fans during his first show at Sheffield Arena how significant the moment was.
‘It’s quite overwhelming after all that time off, it genuinely means the world,’ he said.
‘I’m genuinely still humbled this is still a possibility for me.’
Lewis is set to play shows in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth over the next week.
Next year he will then take the tour to the United States and South America, before summer shows in cities including Dublin, Cardiff, Leeds, London, Belfast and Manchester.
