More details about the record Liam Payne was recording before his untimely death have come to light, with one incredibly poignant track title.
Payne was in the midst of making his second solo album when he died at the age of 31, having fallen from a balcony in Argentina on October 16, 2024.
Earlier that year, Liam’s single Teardrops was released but it failed to enter the UK top 30, and not long after, he split with his manager.
The album was reportedly put on pause, along with a documentary, to allow for the drama in his personal life to settle down.
Now, The Sun have reported that the album was actually finished, revealing two song names: Rainbows and Safe in Heaven.
Rainbows apparently featured Payne singing about finding ‘a way back’ to himself, with the sun rising out of ‘the mess’.
A source told the publication: ‘Liam was really proud of his second album, but the label was concerned he wasn’t in the right headspace to release it. Ultimately, this led to them going their separate ways.
‘The whole record is really emotional and feels almost autobiographical. It’s the most personal body of work Liam ever wrote and recorded.’
The Strip That Down singer had released one album, LP1, in 2019 although this had failed to capture fans’ attention in the same way as his One Direction era.
It mixed R&B, trap, and pop music to create a sound that was very different from the upbeat harmonies of the beloved boyband.
It’s unclear what the future holds for LP2 currently, as the loss is still incredibly raw and conversations about release are still on hold.
One song, What Have You Done, was leaked online after his death, but many fans felt this was an invasion of Payne’s family’s privacy.
The source added: ‘Liam wanted that record to be released. He wanted to share it with his fans who had always supported and backed him.’
Bandmate Louis Tomlinson recently spoke about the loss in an interview with The Independent ahead of the one-year anniversary.
‘You know, there’s still a level in my head [where it feels] unjust and frustrating that he’s not with us anymore. So, it just brought up those feelings, although I’m still living with them anyway.’
He said it was something he would ‘never really accept’, admitting he had been naive to think his previous dealings with grief would help him cope.
Tomlinson continued courageously: ‘It was really, really, impossibly difficult for me to deal with losing Liam.’
