Like PRI, PAN and PRD, the 4T could sink

There was a time, although the new generations are not very clear about it, that in the ranks of the National Action Party there were cultured, educated, humanist politicians, and although clearly conservative and right-wing, one could dialogue with them and even argue vehemently, without resorting to insults and attacks. They were the PAN members who believed in the struggle of eternities.

There were respectable characters such as the founders of the PAN, Manuel Gómez Morín and Efraín González Luna. Then other notable and redeemable characters arrived, such as Efraín González Morfín, Carlos Castillo Peraza and Gabriel Jiménez Remus. However, when the eternal struggle ended and the PAN began to come to power in some states such as Baja California, Guanajuato and Jalisco. And shortly after, in 2000, to the Presidency of the Republic, the PAN succumbed to the capital sins of power.

The albiazul rotted very quickly. It’s not that power changed them, what happened is that power and money laid bare their most vulgar and intimate ambitions. In such a way that the neopanists who found accommodation in public positions rotted very quickly, until reaching the generation of very low-status characters such as Vicente Fox Quesada, Felipe de Jesús Calderón Hinojosa, Ricardo Anaya Cortés, Marko Cortés Mendoza and Jorge Romero Herrera.

There was also a time when the names of some leftist fighters aroused recognition and admiration. Like the first communists who arrived at the Congress of the Union in 1979. They gave luster to that legislature of the Mexican Communist Party, among others, Alejandro Gascón Mercado, Roberto Jaramillo Flores, Ramón Danzos Palomino, Othón Salazar Ramírez, Valentín Campa Salazar, Arnoldo Martínez Verdugo and Gilberto Rincón Gallardo.

When the left came to power from the ranks of the PRD and won the Head of Government of Mexico City with Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas Solórzano and some governorships such as Michoacán, Morelos and Tabasco, its discreet charm faded among frivolity, corruption and ineptitude, until it reached the generation headed by characters like Jesús Zambrano Grijalva, Jesús Ortega Martínez and Guadalupe Acosta Naranjo.

There are several generations of Mexicans who first voted three consecutive times for the presidential candidate Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas Solórzano, in 1988, 1994 and 2000. Then, with that stubborn characteristic of the hopeful, several generations voted three times for Andrés Manuel López Obrador, in the presidential contests of 2006, 2012 and 2018. And last year, in 2024, almost 36 million Mexicans took Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo to the Presidency of the Republic.

The party that for seven decades held itself out as the heir of the Mexican Revolution had its luminous expression with the Government of General Lázaro Cárdenas del Río and flashes of political intelligence with the historian and politician Jesús Reyes Heroles, who from the Ministry of the Interior promoted the profound electoral political reform of 1977.

Devoured by the vertigo of corruption, abuses and simulations, and distanced from the people by the neoliberal governments that betrayed the project of the Mexican Revolution, the only thing left for the PRI is a leader who measures its true stature and scope, since Alejandro Moreno Cárdenas, known by the nickname “Alito”, illustrates the most profane expression of political prostitution.

There is a very broad brotherhood of opportunists who have joined the Fourth Transformation project. People who came from the Labor Party, the Green Ecologist Party of Mexico, the National Action Party and a vast legion of demonized characters who abandoned the ranks of the PRI and disguised themselves as soldiers of transformation.

Something is beginning to smell very bad, because under the protection of power and with the naive shelter of the majority of Mexicans, there are those who assume that they have a license to give free rein to corruption, abuse, arrogance and the levity of those who go naked, exhibiting their frivolities and their miseries.

Many businesses have been incubated under the protection of the new powerful circumstances. Many complicities and corruption enjoy the poorly concealed support of cynical and scoundrel officials, who presume family affections and affinities as armor against the crippled arm of justice.

There are those who seek to perpetuate sick chiefdoms in states such as Zacatecas, Guerrero and San Luis Potosí. While from the ranks of the Legislative Power, from the chambers of deputies and senators, there are others who sabotage the Fourth Transformation project.

President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo has to put an end to the rampage of cynics and scoundrels. You have in your hands the necessary tools to track abuse, waste, theft and illegitimate businesses. It must put to work, with very clear objectives, the Anti-Corruption and Good Government Secretariat, the Financial Intelligence Unit of the Treasury Secretariat, the Tax Administration Service, the Superior Audit of the Federation, the intelligence and investigation services of the Navy, the Army, the National Guard and the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, to keep track of ill-gotten money and assets.

The President has to use all the resources at her disposal so that the investigation folders can be integrated that allow her to formulate the complaints so that the arrest warrants can be issued and the vermin who intend to profit from the Fourth Transformation project can be put in jail.

The President must act without any consideration for those who betray her project, but, above all, betray the trust and hope of the people who expect true change. The President must also consider the most appropriate way to promote or negotiate the departure of the Attorney General of the Republic, Alejandro Gertz Manero, who during an entire six-year term did not have a success worthy of merit. And put in that department someone who is useful to seriously prosecute crimes.

The Presidency must begin to act against negligent, inept, corrupt and cowardly governors, who end up allying themselves with organized crime or protecting it. It must act firmly against those from the regions who betray the people, regardless of their colors, ideology or political position, even when they are their alleged allies, who are only waiting for the best and most lucrative opportunity to sell themselves to the highest bidder and betray the project of the Fourth Transformation.

There are almost 36 million people excited about real change. But the President must act now, with energy and firmness to deworm Morena and her Government. History is the great teacher of life. The shipwreck of other parties and other governments should be a warning to the President. You must pay attention to the history of the new right, empty and superficial; of the PRIism of the rudeness, the disfigurements, the shouts, the violence and the cynicism of those who do not have any ideology or healthy conviction that motivates them; the last death rattles of a factional and corrupt left that lost its way and merged with the loss of the PRD’s registration last year and that now takes refuge in the arms of the unpresentable Pink Tide.

It is time for the President to start acting firmly against the traitors, the scoundrels, the corrupt and the cynics. In politics, in public life and in history, there are none. The nostalgia that hurts the most is longing for what could have been and was not. Thinking about what could have been done and did not happen, when the ship is already sunk and there is no remedy for a future full of shadows and bitter premonitions, would not be the best consolation. Therefore, it is time for the President to start acting to deworm her party and her Government.
