Assailants take stokvel cash and phone

According to provincial police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, one of the men pointed a firearm at the victim and demanded money before forcing her into a bedroom.

The suspects stole a plastic bag containing her stokvel savings and her cellphone.

The woman was pushed to the floor and sustained injuries, but no shots were fired. The men fled on foot.

Police Issue Safety Warning

Limpopo provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe condemned the attack. She also urged households not to keep large amounts of cash at home.

“Communities are once again reminded not to keep large sums of cash at home, especially during the festive season when stokvel-related robberies rise sharply,” she said.

Police confirmed that all relevant stakeholders attended the scene and that investigations are ongoing.
