A Lisbon Chamber said this Tuesday that he did not know When will the recount of votes in the local elections begin? in a section of the parish of São Domingos de Benfica, noting that this process impacts the takeover of local bodies.
“The recount process will be carried out by the general tabulation assembly, chaired by a judicial magistrate who will have to meet again for this purpose, and the date on which this process will begin is unknown at this time”, indicated the Lisbon Chamber.
Asked about the impact on the inauguration of the executive elected in the local authorities on October 12, which resulted in the re-election of Carlos Moedas (PSD) as president of the Lisbon Chamber, the municipality indicated that this act “can only take place after the definitive results are announced”.
At issue is the ruling of the Constitutional Courtpublished on Friday, relatively to the appeal filed by the CDU (PCP/PEV coalition), in which it orders the “recount of votes from polling station no. 28 of the polling station in the parish of São Domingos de Benfica, in the municipality of Lisbon, in relation to the election for the City Council”.
In this ruling, the judges at Ratton Palace also decided validating a null vote in favor of the CDU, at a polling station in the parish of Santa Maria Maior, as well as declaring another vote that had been attributed to Chega null and void.
“The Chega party came to appeal the decision, with the process being concluded with the reporting advisor”, informed the Constitutional Court, in response to the Lusa agency, on Monday, in which it states that the recount of votes is carried out by the general tabulation assembly.
In the election for Lisbon City Council, the Chega began by being ahead of the CDU by a difference of 11 votesaccording to the provisional results from the day of the election, October 12th. Days later, the local tabulation assembly announced that this difference had been reduced to three votes. With this ruling by the Constitutional Court, Chega’s advantage over the CDU was reduced to just one vote.
Regarding the recount of votes, Lusa also questioned the National Elections Commission (CNE), who said he was not aware of the scheduled date for this act, adding that “the electoral process is urgent in nature, so these procedures must be carried out in the shortest possible time”.
In the municipal elections on October 12th, the Social Democrat Carlos Moedas was re-elected president of Lisbon City Councilby the PSD/CDS-PP/IL coalition, with 41.69% of the votes, defeating the socialist Alexandra Leitão (PS/Livre/BE/PAN), who had 33.95%.
