Livre will vote against the State Budget proposal for 2026 in general, decided the party’s Assembly, a document that already has guaranteed approval with the abstention of the PS.
According to an official party source, this decision was taken on Monday night, unanimously, by the Free Assembly – the highest body between congresses – and confirms the already expected position of the party bench led by Rui Tavares and Isabel Mendes Lopes.
On Monday, during a press conference to present proposals for changes to the document, which after the generality will proceed to the specialty phase, the parliamentary leader, Isabel Mendes Lopes, was questioned about whether her bench (currently made up of six deputies) already had any inclination to vote.
The deputy sent the final decision to the party’s Assembly, but replied that “it is no secret to anyone that Livre’s vision and this Government’s vision for the country are totally opposite”.
Rui Tavares also highlighted that there is, “at this moment, a right-wing majority that governs the country and this right-wing majority needs an opposition”.
“Livre will be that opposition”, he stressed, insisting on the importance of the specialty process and the role of parliament during this period.
Parliament debates and votes today, in general, on the State Budget proposal for next year, presented by the PSD/CDS-PP Government.
