One of Bristol’s longest-running nightclubs, Lizard Lounge, has announced it will be closing its doors for good after nearly three decades in the city.
The club, based on Queens Road just off the Clifton Triangle, shared the news via Instagram and Facebook on Wednesday, 3rd of July, with a post reading: “The end of an era. 1997-2025.”

The caption was also accompanied by another message: “Thank you for the memories Bristol, they will live forever.”
No further information has been provided for the sudden closure, and the club’s Google listing has now been updated to show it as “permanently closed.”
Often described as a hub for students conveniently located on the Triangle, Lizard Lounge has played a major role in Bristol nightlife since it opened in 1997.
Most familiar for holding countless sports socials, and ideal cringe club music, it was a regular go-to for students and locals alike. We’re sure lots of you are sad to see it go.
The news has raised some concerns among some who fear more closures are to come. Given the number of venues that have shut their doors or rebranded in the past two years, including Gravity, Pam Pam (now Vice), Mbargo’s (now Daisy’s), Motion, and now Lizard Lounge; it’s starting to feel like Bristol’s nightlife is entering a period of serious change.
Two University of Bristol students have commented that the news is indeed “heartbreaking” and the Triangle “won’t be the same without it.”
Lizard Lounge had recently posted a full video tour of the venue on their social media, promoting the space as available for private hire. The closure came as a shock considering there had been no public indication that the venue was planning to shut.
At present, no details have been confirmed regarding the reasons for the closure, or whether another venue may take over the space.
