Country superstar Luke Bryan and his family have been hit with multiple tragedies over the years, including the shocking death of his sister, Kelly Bryan, in 2007.
“I’ve never really explained what happened to my sister,” Bryan, 49, told Anderson Cooper during the Tuesday, October 28, episode of Cooper’s “All There Is” podcast. “There’s some misinformation out there on the internet, and I think some people kind of wonder what happened and think that we’ve tried to cover it up.”
According to the “Play It Again” singer, his sister died of “sudden death syndrome.”
“There is a very, very small percentage of people that die for no reason in the world,” he continued. “She was in her home doing her laundry, and it was — Anderson, it was like, you know — somebody just turned the switch off on her and it was just tragic beyond words.”
He went on to explain that the family was hoping to get answers, but Kelly’s autopsy was “inconclusive.”
“There was just so much unanswered questions. And we wanted to know, ‘Could there be a family history of something that her children might have or may have?'” he told Cooper.
Bryan’s brother-in-law and Kelly’s widower, Ben Lee Cheshire, passed away seven years later, leaving the country singer and his wife, Caroline Boyer, to raise their three children.
“I’m gonna find the happiness in this and make the best of something that’s horrible,” Boyer told Country Living in 2019.
