Magdalena Contreras promotes agrarian justice with the caravan for women on social property – Diario Basta!

Magdalena Contreras hosted the fourth Caravan for Women in Social Property, promoted by SEDATU, the RAN and the Agrarian Attorney’s Office, in compliance with Commitment 53 of the President Claudia Sheinbaum.

Mayor Fernando Mercado reaffirmed his support for community and ejidatarian women, highlighting the importance of guaranteeing them legal certainty regarding land ownership and strengthening their participation in agrarian life.

The La Magdalena Contreras Mayor’s Office was the headquarters of the Caravan for Women in Social Property, an initiative led by the Secretariat of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development (SEDATU) in coordination with the Agrarian Attorney’s Office, the National Agrarian Registry (RAN) and the National Institute of Sustainable Land (INSUS), with the aim of strengthening the rights of rural women and providing them with legal certainty regarding land ownership.

The mayor Fernando Mercado Guaida welcomed the and therepresentatives of the agrarian sector and the participating institutions, highlighting the importance of collaboration between the three levels of government to guarantee that community and ejidatarian women are recognized as full holders of their agrarian rights.

“Today we reaffirm our alliance with the agrarian nuclei, with the City Government and with the Government of Mexico. Transformation is also flourishing in our rural communities, and it is time for women to be protagonists of development and social justice,” said Mayor Mercado Guaida.

The caravan is part of the president’s Commitment 53 Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, which seeks for 150 thousand women nationwide to obtain documentation that gives them legal certainty over their lands. Thanks to the success of the program, it is planned to expand the goal to 250 thousand beneficiary women throughout the country.

During the event, the representative of SEDATU, Laura López, stressed that these actions respond to the presidential instruction to strengthen the participation of women in agrarian life and guarantee their equitable access to social property.

In addition, Esperanza Villalobos Pérezrepresentative of the Agrarian Attorney’s Office in Mexico Cityhighlighted that “only 20 percent of the ejidos are presided over by women,” so these caravans promote a historic change towards parity and justice in the countryside.

For her part, Guadalupe Aurora Lolbe Peraza González, representative of the National Agrarian Registry in Mexico City, recognized the work of Contreres women in preserving the territory and rural identity:

“Here in Magdalena Contreras, a place where the force of the countryside is still felt, where the mountains protect our communities and where the work of women has been essential to preserve plural identity, we raise our voices today with dignity and hope.
