Orlando Pirates still haven’t named the next coach to replace Jose Riveiro at the Betway Premiership giants next season.
Several names have been touted, including Mamelodi Sundowns’ legendary former coaches Rulani Mokwena and Pitso Mosimane and AmaZulu FC’s former coach Pablo Franco Martin.
In the meantime, former Buccaneer Mpho Makola has explained why Mokwena and Mosimane are the top candidates for the job.

“The best two options are Rulani [Mokwena] and Pitso [Mosimane],” Makola said via FARPost.
“For me, it’s clear and obvious. They are the best. Whoever is coming has a big task at hand. As a matter of fact, the team needs a tried and tested candidate,” the former Orlando Pirates ace added.
“The previous coach [Jose Riveiro] won key titles for the team but couldn’t win the league title. It has been elusive for a long time. So the new coach must be someone with fresh and unique ideas to win the league title.

“Coach Rulani knows the system very well, considering that he has been there before. It’s an added advantage, and coach Pitso is tried and tested both locally and on the continent.
“Those are the undoubted and straightforward candidates for the team’s job. It’s the league title that is needed and missed at Orlando Pirates,” Makola concluded.
