Man dies after falling 30ft into empty silo at a factory in Speke, Liverpool

Emergency services are at the scene of an incident in Speke this evening. Merseyside Police, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and North West Ambulance Service are currently at the scene on Woodend Avenue at the junction with Speke Boulevard. Ambulance staff appear to be focusing on a unit behind Dugdale Nutrition. Police can be seen inside the industrial unit on the second floor. A man died after falling 30 feet into an empty factory silo in Speke, Merseyside, yesterday evening.

A 999 call was made after 7 pm on Monday, following the man’s plunge, prompting Merseyside Police, Fire and Rescue, and the North West Ambulance Service to rush to the scene.

The 45-year-old man died from his injuries shortly after the fall. His family have been informed.

A police cordon was put in place, and the road was closed and emergency services dealt with the incident.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said yesterday: ‘It was reported at around 7.20 pm that a man had been involved in an incident at a factory on Woodend Avenue.

‘Emergency services remain at the scene and the Health and Safety Executive has also been notified.’

The search and rescue team used a rope system to lower a member of their team to establish the man’s condition, before later declaring him dead.
