Manhunt under way for murderer of Eskom employee

Police in Mpumalanga have launched a manhunt for suspects following a deadly shooting that claimed the life of an Eskom employee and left his wife seriously injured near Riestspruit, outside Emalahleni.

The incident occurred while the couple, both employed by Eskom, were travelling home from work at the Kriel Power Station.

Fatally wounded

They were driving in a bakkie when they were ambushed, and the vehicle was later found in the middle of the road riddled with bullet holes.

A 39-year-old man was fatally wounded after being shot in the upper body.

His wife sustained gunshot wounds and was rushed to hospital for medical treatment.

Her current condition has not been disclosed.

Case of murder

Mpumalanga police spokesperson Brigadier Jabu Ndubane confirmed that a case of murder and attempted murder is being investigated.

She said officers recovered 15 spent cartridges at the scene, indicating the severity of the attack.

“The deceased was shot on the upper body and 15 cartridges were found on the scene. Police are appealing to members of the public for assistance in tracing and arresting the suspect,” Ndubane said.
