Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa received Infanta Sofia of Spain, at the Belém Palace, in what was the first official meeting of the youngest daughter of the kings of Spain with a foreign head of state.
The Presidency also released photographs of a relaxed walk by Marcelo and Sofia through the gardens of the Belém Palace.

In the meeting between the two, “they discussed the historical past and the close partnership that unites the two countries, the bonds of deep empathy and friendship between the Portuguese and Spanish people, as well as the present and future in the challenges of new generations”.
Sofia, who turned 18 on April 29th, is residing in Lisbonwhere he studies Political Science and International Relations at Forward College, a private university international company that, in 2023, chose the Portuguese capital to install a campus. The young woman studies in Bairro Alto and lives in the Benfica area.

Marcelo decorated Leonor with the grand cross of the Military Order of Christ: “It is a tribute to your highness, to the Kingdom of Spain, to our friendship forever”, stated the President of Portugal.
