The Wuthering Heights press tour is getting a little Wicked-coded as Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie’s friendship continues to bloom.

The Aussie actors are starring in Emerald Fennel’s adaptation of the classic Emily Brontë novel, which has proved controversial before it’s even been released.

Rather than multiple matching tattoos like Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, the dynamic duo have gone for a far less permanent signet ring.

The matching rings depict two skeletons embracing, surrounded by red roses, set into a gold oval.

Weaving around the figures are the words ‘Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same’, which is a quote from the book.

Margot, 35, gifted the rings, created by UK designer Cece Fein-Hughes, to her co-star after declaring they were ‘obsessed’ with each other.

While filming on Valentine’s Day last year — with the film release slated for February 13, 2026 — Jacob filled Margot’s room with roses as a surprise.

‘You made my day and, as Heathcliff, filled my room with roses and it was so cute,’ she told Vogue Australia. ‘You definitely beat me.’

She admitted she had not done anything to mark the occasion for him, adding: ‘Yours was so epic… I remember thinking on Valentine’s Day, “Oh he’s probably a very good boyfriend, ’cause there’s a lot of thoughtfulness in this.” You did a lot of very thoughtful things.’

The Frankenstein star, 28, also wrote a note for Margot on a handcrafted ‘little tombstone thing’, which she called ‘meaningful and dramatic.’

Their connection started from their first moments on set, as Jacob apparently used to lurk in the corner and watch the Barbie icon acting.

‘I remember the first couple days on set, he would just be like always in the vicinity where I was, but like in a corner, watching Cathy,’ Margot told Fandango.

She got so used to him being there that she actually ‘was really unnerved, and unmoored’ when he wasn’t there.

‘I felt quite like lost like a kid without their blanket or something,’ she explained.

Jacob said they had a ‘mutal obsession’ and regardless of the film, if he was working with Margot, he’d want to ‘be within 5 to 10 meters at all times.’

‘She’s just like an elite actor and she’s producing the movie, you know?’ he continued. ‘So I don’t know how somebody has the skill and the wisdom to do that as a performer and to give the performance that she gave, but I was enamoured by her.’

The pair ‘hated’ days on set when the other wasn’t there and Jacob also said he felt like they were ‘catching bits of Cathy and Heathcliff’s unrequited love’.

It’s not quite Wicked’s iconic holding space connection but Jacob and Margot are certainly falling into that dramatic level of co-star idolisation.

Wuthering Heights has already stirred up controversy with its raunchy trailer, as well as due to its casting, but the Saltburn star expected a reaction from fans – and doesn’t see it as a bad thing.

‘I think what Emerald has done is really perfect and super beautiful,’ he told WSJ. Magazine.

Both actors have also been criticised as too old to play their characters, who are teenagers in the novel, as well as attention for the anachronistic costumes.

Then there are the issues around casting Heathcliff — who is described as ‘dark-skinned’, so many believe was written to be a person of colour — as Jacob.

Wutherting Heights’ first trailer saw plenty of heavy breathing, sweaty skin, and fingers in mouths – including that of a dead fish’s – as well as a fractured version of Charli XCX’s Everything is Romantic.

Many online dubbed the film ’50 Shades of Brontë’ and leaked details from a preview screening included a nun fondling a corpse and a ‘BDSM-tinged encounter’, as well as a condemned man ejaculating during an execution.

Director Emerald came under fire when she admitted some of her risqué additions to the story came from her early memories of the book, and things she thought she remembered reading – only to realise they weren’t actually explicitly on the page when she went back.

She claimed you can’t make a true adaptation of a classic novel like this so she is adapting her memory of the book.

One thing is for certain: those hoping to see a faithful adaptation are likely in for a Charli XCX soundtracked shock on February 13.
